New Keystone Clearwater Solutions division launches a unique approach to PFAS treatment

New technology safely speeds implementation and reduces costs

A recently formed division of Keystone Clear Water Solutions, Sentinel Water Solutions, has introduced a comprehensive new technology to perform pilot tests, design full scale treatment, and operate treatment systems for PFAS to significantly reduce both operating costs and capital expenditures.

Traditional approaches to PFAS testing and treatment involve lengthy and extensive pilot studies followed by the implementation of systems that are expensive to build and operate.  By leveraging their patent-pending technologies, packaged treatment systems, and flexible operating models, Sentinel Water Solutions is able to extend media life, reduce operating costs, and make the implementation of PFAS treatment as seamless as possible for water utilities. Sentinel offers a complete turnkey solution to PFAS treatment including piloting, permitting, design, installation, and operation with flexible financing options.

Tom Klein, VP of Product Engineering for Sentinel Water Solutions noted, “While other companies are in the business of selling portions of PFAS treatment projects that still place much of the design, construction, and operating burden on utilities, we’re in the business of selling a performance goal through a single, comprehensive offering.  It’s simple. You give us a site with PFAS.  We get rid of your PFAS problem. And we’ll do it quickly, safely, and cost effectively.”

Andrew Strassner, President of Sentinel added, “Our team has been removing PFAS from drinking water dating back to 2016, and through the years we’ve experienced this challenge from multiple vantage points, leading to the creation of the unique services being offered by Sentinel.  We will continue building on our experience and helping our partner utilities reduce costs while improving compliance through technology and innovation.”

In pursuit of CAPEX and OPEX savings, Sentinel employs patent-pending technologies for pilot studies and full-scale treatment that are designed to maximize media life and reduce ongoing operating and maintenance costs. Unlike traditional lead-lag filtration systems, Sentinel’s patent-pending PFAS Roughing Filter™ systems are designed to ensure GAC and IX media isn’t wasted before being completely utilized.  Sentinel’s approach also reduces the need for onsite media changeouts and backwashing.  Sentinel provides optional turnkey operations of their flexible packaged treatment system which can be leased or purchased by utilities depending on their budgetary constraints.  Sentinel’s turnkey operations include system health, sampling, and compliance services to make PFAS treatment as hands-off as possible for the water utility.

About Sentinel Water Solutions, LLC.

Sentinel Water Solutions, LLC. is a division of Keystone Clearwater Solutions, LLC. Sentinel was formed by Keystone Clearwater in partnership with Constructive, Inc., an online marketplace for the procurement of water utility technology and services.  To address the challenges faced by small to mid-sized water utilities with PFAS contamination issues, Keystone Clearwater and Constructive launched Sentinel Water Solutions to meet the need for fast, economical PFAS treatment solutions.

Sentinel’s leadership team has worked for or served water utilities for the past 20 years with 62 years of combined municipal water industry experience, and backgrounds in mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, construction management, geology, operations, and finance.  They’ve also successfully completed multiple turnkey PFAS projects such as the installation of 2,500 gpm GAC pressure vessels for NJ American Water with design, procurement, installation, and commission taking place in under 6 weeks. They also provided design-build services for an emergency PFAS treatment system at a military base in NJ, providing a turnkey solution that was online in under 40 days. The team’s experience lends itself to Sentinel’s mission of helping utilities tackle PFAS contamination quickly and cost-effectively.
